In Kennel ex Domo Leonis the first litter was born in 1987- mother was the Swedish/Belgium female Jourka von Aback
Kennel van de Waranhoeve got his first litter in 1992 with Oshy ex Domo Leonis, a daughter of Jourka.
In 2001 Jacky and I got married and both kennels were registered on the same adres- our home in Lanaken/Belgium
In 2002 we´ve bought a small farm in south-west of Sweden- where we regularly stay with our Leos-
We love the clean air so much that we decided to raise a litter there - in 2006 we finally registered the Waranhoeve in Sweden.
Altogether we have 4 Leos, but they are of different nationalities and in case of breeding there are 2 possible countries the puppies can be born.
In 2001 I flew to Finland to buy a puppy (Nikita) which I had chosen on internet- Nikita's backround was completely new for Belgium.
We were in love with her temper.
with 17 month she had developed so nicely, that she won the youthtitle 2002 in Leonberg as the first finish dog.
From Nikita's litters we did keep Disney and Fanny.
Baby Doll is from my own ex Domo Leonis line - so far the latest one of this line.
The dogs always stay with us in the house or on trips in our mobile-home,
they of course enjoy the garden, but they prefer one of us be there too.
Besides going for a walk in the forest, swimming in a lake, and catching balls, they love to get attention with lots of hugging.
Sometimes we have a litter (we love to have puppies) running around in our house as well.
But before mating even takes place, I have to consider which male to use very carefully.
First of all, the future father needs the special Leonberger temper (easy going).
Even in old Leonberger chronicles this special kind of temper was admired, as well as the kindness and and patience displayed by Leos when dealing with children or even handicapped elderly people.
The temper a puppy will have, always depends on its genes.
Besides that, it needs to be raised and attended to properly by the breeder to give the puppy the chance to interact and socialize with its surroundings early on.
Last but certainly not least, a puppy's temper will be greatly influenced by the way it is treated by the new owner as "the finishing touch" to its personality is added.
With equal importance I check the future father on Health; HD, ED, eyes or any other genetic diseases (also in its background and siblings), this is most important for a future mating.
Naturally, I'll be looking for a good looking male, which means I am sometimes quite busy finding
Mr. Perfect.
If you should ask "what is a Leonberger?"- I would answer that I believe that a Leo is a kind of guardian angel, who accompanies me on the path of life for some time;
a Leo takes care of me, protects me, without any orders to do so.
A leo is a wonderful loyal friend,
in both good and sad times.
